All Free Timed Special Research Codes in Pokemon GO

Image of Daphne Fama

2023 has been the year of the Elemental Titans. Each of the Regi siblings has challenged us to defeat it in 5-Star Raids during the past two months. However, it is very possible that you have missed your chance to go toe-to-toe with these titans or simply lacked the Raiding buddies to help you. If that is the case, never fear. You have a chance of adding the Regis to your lineup without ever needing to battle them. Here are the Free Timed Special Research Codes for Regirock, Regice, and Registeel.

It is a big week in Pokemon GO! Tonight, February 18, 2023, the Hoenn – Las Vegas tour kicks off. Do not worry if you were not able to nab one of those sold-out tickets or a plane to Sin City. You can celebrate by catching Regirock, Registeel, and Regice. And, yes, there is a possibility to encounter them in their Shiny form!

In order to take advantage of the Limited Free Timed Special Research Codes, you will need to head over to Niantic Rewards Lab , the input the following codes.

  • Legend #377, Regirock → 6X4H9UCA8F7TT
  • Legend #378, Regice → YKG5ZPC4SLXAX
  • Legend #379, Registeel → 6AKRAV5WJN5FS

Once you input these codes into Ninatic Labs Rewards, you will need to complete a Special Research Task. You will have eight days to complete the task, and fortunately, it is fairly easy to do. You will just need to complete three of your currently existing Field Research tasks and perform an excellent throw .

Do that, then turn in the Special Research to get your reward!

Completing Regirock’s task will net you a Golden Razz Berry and an encounter with Regirock. Complete Regice’s task and you will get the same reward, but you will have a chance to catch Regice.

Personally, I am thrilled to have another chance to catch a Shiny Titan Pokemon! Good luck, trainer.

Special Research List

Special Research Lines come in two main flavors: Unlimited and Limited. Unlimited lines unlock at specific points in the game, and  are available to complete at the player's leisure. Limited lines have specific requirements to unlock such as playing during a specific time period, and may or may not have a time-limit.

Unlimited Special Research

Research System Breakdown

Research Tasks are divided into four categories:

  • Field Research - Single-objective goals such as spinning PokeStops and catching Pokemon that reward items and one "stamp" (1 per day). These are the tasks outlined above.
  • Special Research - Story based multi-objective goals such as catching and transferring Pokemon that have unknown rewards
  • Paid Research  - Similar to Special Research, but a ticket must be purchased in order to actually enjoy these Research lines. These are frequently tied to events or seasons.
  • Research Breakthrough - Rewards based on collecting stamps that reward Stardust, items, and a Pokemon encounter.

Task Mechanics

A trainer can hold up to 3 tasks at a time, 4 including an AR task. Also, trainers can trash a task if they do not want to try to complete it.

Trainers receive tasks from spinning PokeStops, and each Pokestop gives the same task to all trainers during the day. If the reward is an encounter, all trainers receive the same species (though IVs will differ). If you get a task on Monday from a stop and don’t clear it until Tuesday, you will not be able to get a task from that same PokeStop on Tuesday as once you receive a task, you will not receive another one from that PokeStop. However, if you delete a task, you can go back to that stop later in the day to get it again.

Various events frequently have their own unique set of tasks with event-themed rewards. Community Days in particular bend the Research rule a bit, as the research assigned to each Stop for the day changes to Community Day-themed research for the duration of the event, and revert back to normal after the event. Note that completing research from a given stop at any point during a given day will cause it to remain claimed for the rest of said day regardless of event-themed task changes.

Tasks give a variety of rewards, often based on the challenge you had to complete. Rewards can be encounters, Stardust, or items such as balls, potions, revives, TMs, and Rare Candy. Generally, more difficult tasks will have higher rewards.

Encounters from tasks are level 15 Pokemon with IVs of at least 10 in all 3 stats. After clearing an encounter task, you will be taken to the encounter. The Pokemon will not be weather boosted regardless of the in-game weather. You can run from the encounter and come back to it in the future.

Once you clear an encounter task, you can immediately collect a new task. Interestingly enough, you can save a large number of encounters! Some trainers do this and choose to catch them during a Lucky Egg or Star Piece session.

Each day when you complete your first task, you receive a Research Stamp. When you have 7 stamps, you will receive a Research Breakthrough.

Research Breakthrough rewards change each season.

General Tips

Special research tasks do not give a daily stamp - only field research does Minimum level for Special Research is level 5 Pokemon encounters appear to be at level Many players have a “refill loop” or “grind loop” of stops and gyms in their PoGo lives, often one they hit multiple times each day.. If you have the option, add a second loop. Having multiple loops will greatly increase the number of tasks seen Try to keep one open task so you can always pick a new one up when you visit a Pokestop for the first time in a day. Find a network of players to report tasks, perhaps through your raid chat of choice. You won’t be able to check every stop, so if people call out TM, Rare Candy or Chansey quests it can really help. Some communities have focused on calling out Charmander encounter quests. This is a great way to farm high IV Pokemon before a community day. Some encounters have very large hit-boxes. Save these for when you are working on a 3 excellent or 3 great throw in a row quest. Try not to hold more than 1 long term quest. Remember there is an opportunity cost to holding 3 “Catch a Ditto for 3 Rare Candy” tasks. Obviously the payoff is awesome, but in the meantime you are missing out on so many other potential rewards from other tasks you cannot get. Don’t miss a day of Research Progress. If you don’t think you can play much tomorrow, leave one task unclaimed today. Tomorrow you can wake up, claim the task, and make progress towards your Research Breakthrough. Consider weather, biome, and active events when deciding whether to keep or delete a task. You likely aren’t going to quickly complete the “3 Pidgey or Murkrow” task on a sunny day during a rock event, but you should blow through “catch 5 Pokemon with Weather Boost” on a cloudy day during a fighting event. If you don’t throw excellents well, it’s not the end of the world to toss a task requiring an excellent throw. Holding on to tasks without substantial rewards for a long period of time is a big mistake. In general, take your playstyle into account when deciding to keep or delete a task. Do you battle gyms constantly? Then the Minium task isn’t bad as you will quickly turn it over. Did you already use your raid pass for the day? Then don’t hold on to that “Defeat a level 3 raid for some potions” type tasks. Free to play? Then the hatch 3 eggs” quest is probably an easy one to delete. Have a task that you know you cannot complete quickly at a stop near your house? Well trash that task while you grind. Then as you return home you can grab it later in the day. That way you can cycle through more tasks without it clogging your inventory. Remember that reward encounters and the Research Breakthrough reward have a 0% flee rate. Use pinaps liberally! Keep track of local nests. “Catch 3 Bugs” is much easier when you know there is a Caterpie nest a couple blocks away.

What is Research in Pokémon GO?

Research is a feature in Pokémon GO that gives Trainers the opportunity to help Professor Willow with his Pokémon Research. Completing a Research Task will unlock rewards. The more challenging a task, the greater the reward will be.

There are two types of Research you can contribute to: Field Research and Special Research .

What is Field Research ?

Field Research tasks are assigned/collected by spinning PokéStops. Trainers can only receive and complete one task from each PokéStop each day. Tasks are the same for all trainers on a given day so you can share PokéStop locations for a desirable task with others in your community.

The task will consist of an objective and a reward for completing it. Rewards range from Items to Pokémon encounters. If the task awards items, it will disclose what item and quantity on the task itself. If it’s an encounter, it won’t. Instead you can refer to the handy graphic on this page.

The first Field Research task you complete for a day will reward you with a Stamp towards unlocking a Research Breakthrough .

How do I unlock a Research Breakthrough ?

You can unlock a Research Breakthrough by collect 7 Stamps. Again, Stamps are obtained from your first completed Field Research task for the day. Unlike the ‘First PokéStop of the Day’ or ‘First Catch of the Day’ streaks, you do not need to collect Stamps on consecutive days. You won’t ever lose stamps you earned because you missed a day.

Upon reaching 7 Stamps, you can open the box and earn a handful of helpful Rewards. Rewards will consist of a Pokémon encounter, XP, Stardust and will include one of the following items: Rare Candy, Pinap Berries, Ultra Balls, or Poké Balls.

What is Special Research ?

Special Research is like Field Research but they can be thought of as part of the game’s Story. Like Field Research they consist of tasks that you work through to earn Rewards. However in Special Research completing a set of task will earn you additional rewards. Completing all sets of tasks in the series will earn you a more valuable reward. eg. A Mythical Pokémon encounter.

While, Trainers cannot repeat Special Research tasks, Professor Willow will occasionally seek assistance with new tasks. Special Research can also be assigned at Special Events like GO Fest in Chicago or during in-game Events like Pokémon GO Halloween 2018.

What are the CP numbers next to the Pokémon in the graphic?

That is the range of possible CPs that your Pokémon encounter could be. The highest is Perfect IVs and the lowest is not so perfect IVs.

What is the Sparkle next to some Pokémon in the graphic?

The sparkle indicates that there is a chance of encountering that Pokémon in their Shiny form. The chance of encountering a Shiny from a Field Research task is 1 in 450. However they could possibly be higher for certain encounters (eg. Absol).

pokemon go audino header

If you’re looking for a roundup of all the Pokemon Go Field Research tasks in August 2024, we’ve broken them down into categories, alongside details of the Research Breakthrough rewards you can earn.

Field Research is a long-running feature in Pokemon Go that gives Trainers a variety of tasks to complete to earn rewards. Completing seven tasks over seven days will result in a Research Breakthrough, which is a guaranteed encounter with a desirable Pokemon.

These Field Research tasks incorporate various elements of gameplay. Some will ask you to catch different types of Pokemon, others require you to take part in Raid Battles , and a few will task you with earning Candies or Hearts with your Buddy .

For August 2024, Trainers can earn an encounter with Hisuian Growlithe, Larvitar, Audino, Axew, Furfrou, and Jangmo-o as a Research Breakthrough. These are quite rare creatures in Pokemon Go, so it’s worth catching as many as possible during the Shared Skies season festivities.

What is Field Research in Pokemon Go?

Field Research is a series of tasks that are obtained by spinning a PokeStop or Gym . Players looking to rack up rewards will have to travel as they are only able to complete one task a day for each location.

Each task contains an objective, and trainers are given a reward for achieving it. Rewards can range from items like Poke Balls to encounters with specific Pokemon, which you can see in the tables above.

How do I unlock a Research Breakthrough?

To unlock a Research Breakthrough and get an encounter with the current month’s Pokemon, you’ll need to complete one Field Research task every day for seven days . The good news is they don’t have to be consecutive days, so you could do this over the space of a month if you wanted to.

Once you’ve completed a task, make sure you claim the reward on the Field Research progress page to earn a stamp. You can only earn one stamp per day, but completed tasks can be saved up and claimed at a later date to earn a stamp.

Once seven stamps have been earned, you can claim your Research Breakthrough reward by opening the package that appears at the top of the Field Research progress page.

How to get a Research Breakthrough in Pokemon Go

There are six potential Research Breakthrough encounters in August: Hisuian Growlithe, Larvitar, Audino, Axew, Furfrou, and Jangmo-o. They will be rewarded randomly, so you can’t predict which Pokemon you’ll get.

You’ll need to earn your seventh Field Research stamp and claim your big reward before the end of the season if you want to get one of these Pokemon, as a different set of rewards could take over then.

If you earn a stamp every day in August, you’ll be able to earn up to four Research Breakthroughs, meaning you’ll get the chance to catch four of these Pokemon, which is a great way to stock up on Candy.

Is there a Shiny Research Breakthrough in Pokemon Go?

According to the official season hub for Pokemon Go’s Shared Skies season, all of the Pokemon listed as Research Breakthrough rewards are available to get in Shiny forms, making them perfect targets for players who value rare and hard-to-get ‘mons.

Field Research Breakthrough Shiny rates

Just like most species, Pokemon encounters from Field Research and Breakthrough rewards have a Shiny rate of around 1 in 450 . While not the best odds, it’s still better than most of the mainline RPGs.

If you want to increase your chances of finding a Shiny variation, make sure you don’t miss a single day of Field Research, as you’ll be able to get up to four Research Breakthrough encounters this way.

If you would like to stay updated with more stuff going on this month, check out the current Shadow Raid schedule and all the upcoming events .

Pokémon Go ‘Let’s Go’ Special Research Tasks and rewards

All the steps of the seasonal ‘Let’s Go’ Special Research

by Matthew Reynolds and Julia Lee

Professor Willow, Machoke, Mankey, Meditite, and the Rising Heroes logo on a blue and green gradient background

Pokémon Go has a new Special Research Task set, titled “ Let’s Go ,” which is the same name as the event that brought it to the game (confusing!).

The research is free, and you have until June 1 to claim it . Once you log in and begin, it’ll stick around forever, so there’s no rush in completing it.

The rewards are completely free, and sees the debut of the Master Ball . Thankfully, tasks are easy enough to complete, so it’s worth completing as you play your usual amount of Pokémon Go . In other words — no specific need to grind!

Below, we’ve listed out the steps to the “Let’s Go” Special Research, which was concluded on May 22, 2023 , with the introduction of steps four to six.

Let’s Go step 1 of 6

  • Catch 10 Pokémon (5 Poké Balls)
  • Make 10 curveball throws (5 Razz Berries)
  • Power up Pokémon 5 times (1,000 Stardust)

Rewards : 1,500 XP, Mankey encounter

Let’s Go step 2 of 6

  • Catch 15 Pokémon (10 Poké Balls)
  • Make 10 great throws (5 Pinap Berries)
  • Transfer 20 Pokémon (5 Great Balls)

Rewards : 2,000 XP, Meditite encounter

Let’s Go step 3 of 6

  • Power up Pokémon 10 times (10 Great Balls)
  • Make 7 great throws (1 Lure Module)
  • Defeat a Team Go Rocket grunt (3 Revives)

Rewards : 2,500 XP, Machoke encounter

Let’s Go step 4 of 6

  • Catch a Pokémon (500 XP)

Rewards : 1,000 XP, 1,000 Stardust

Let’s Go step 5 of 6

  • Catch 25 Pokémon (2,500 Stardust)
  • Defeat 3 Team Go Rocket grunts (3 Hyper Potions)
  • Make 5 excellent throws (Galarian Farfetch’d encounter)
  • Evolve 5 Pokémon (2,500 Stardust)
  • Battle in a gym 3 times (5 Revives)

Rewards: Master Ball , 1,000 Stardust, 1000 XP

  • Claim reward (10 Ultra Balls)
  • Claim reward (2 Pinap Berries)
  • Claim reward (1 Star Piece)

Rewards: 3,000 Stardust, 3,000 XP

Remember, you have until the end of the season (up until 10 a.m. local time on June 1) to start the above quest. And with a Master Ball up for grabs, you won’t want to miss it!

  • If a Trainer encounters a Shiny Pokémon as a research reward, said Pokémon will remain shiny until the Trainer captures it. The Trainer is free to run away and re-encounter the Pokémon and it will always be shiny. [1]
  • Upon collecting the reward (which grants the stamp), you can choose not to enter the encounter immediately, but if you tap the reward again, you will immediately be taken to the encounter without warning. However, if you don't have enough Poké Balls to catch it, you can exit and the reward will still be available later. The Pokémon is considered to have spawned when you first enter the encounter. Encounter tasks do not count towards the 3 task maximum once you have collected the stamp, even if you haven't captured the Pokémon.
  • For Nice/Great Throw tasks, a higher tier Throw will count.
  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , select Field Research tasks that could be difficult to finish from home are removed. [2] A list can be found here .

All Pokémon Go Psychic Spectacular 2024 Premium Timed Research tasks and rewards

Image of Zack Palm

The Psychic Spectacular 2024 event has returned to Pokémon Go , allowing players to track down their favorite Psychic-type Pokémon. Those who want more rewards during the event can buy the Psychic Spectacular 2024 Timed Research ticket, a premium purchase.

If you want to grab this ticket during the event, as it won’t be available to every trainer, there are several rewards for getting it. These rewards include an increased chance to get Hatenna encounters, along with a handful of incubators, for anyone who wants to make it easier to catch Hatenna from 7km eggs. Here’s what you need to know about all Pokémon Go Psychic Spectacular 2024 Timed Research tasks and rewards.

How to complete Pokémon Go Psychic Spectacular 2024 Timed Research

The Pokemon Go Psychic Spectacular screen, featuring several Pokemon contained in purple orbs.

You’ll want to pick up this Timed Research in the Pokémon Go store while it’s available. After purchasing it, all the tasks will become available, and the Timed Research should remain in your taskbar for a short period. This is a Timed Research, and not a Special Research. You have a limited time to complete everything before it disappears.

These are all the Special Research tasks and rewards you need to complete for the Psychic Spectacular 2024 ticket in Pokémon Go .

This should be a relatively straightforward Timed Research for players to obtain in Pokémon Go . Given its limited nature, grabbing this Timed Research sooner rather than later would be a good idea to ensure you can complete all the tasks before the event ends. When the event ends, the Timed Research also disappears, giving you a short time to finish everything.

How To Get Hatenna In Pokémon GO: Evolution & Shiny Availability

Pokémon go dynamax beldum weaknesses & counters, best team for the psychic cup in pokémon go (max out season).

The latest event in Pokémon GO , called Ultra Unlock: Better Together, has officially kicked off, meaning there's a new set of Timed Research and event-exclusive Field Research tasks for Trainers to work through. While there are only a few days to complete them all, the rewards for doing so are more than worth it, as they include encounters with the new Pokémon debut, Tandemaus.

Better Together is the first of three Ultra Unlock events that Trainers managed to unlock by completing challenges during Pokémon GO Fest 2024 . It runs from July 17, 2024 at 10 AM to July 22, 2024, at 8 PM local time, meaning you've got six days to enjoy all of the themed wild spawns, Raid Bosses, and - most importantly - finish all of the free Timed Research tasks.

Pokémon GO Better Together Timed Research Tasks

Rewards include regional variants and tandemaus.

A list of Better Together Timed Research tasks next to a Raichu reward encounter in Pokemon GO

There are just two steps to work through in the Better Together Timed Research, and each one contains the exact same tasks to complete. The first step rewards encounters with Sneasel, Marowak, Raichu, and Yamask, while the second step rewards encounters with regional variants of those Pokémon. Completing every task will also get you an encounter with Tandemaus .

Remember that the Pokémon GO Ultra Unlock: Better Together event ends on Monday, July 22, 2024, at 8 PM local time. This set of Timed Research will expire at that point, so you'll need to complete both steps before then to claim all of the available rewards.

Even more encounters with tandemaus.

There are seven exclusive Field Research tasks you can claim by spinning PokéStops during the Ultra Unlock: Better Together event. If you don't get the task you want, you can delete an existing task to make room for more, but you'll need to spin a different PokéStop to get one. With a little help from Leek Duck , you can see all of the event-exclusive Field Research tasks below:

All of these Field Research tasks have the potential to reward a rare Tandemaus encounter. This will be very helpful for catching the adorable little rodent Pokémon, as it will only be available to encounter during Party Play sessions outside of this event. You'll need a total of 50 Tandemaus Candy to evolve it into Maushold in Pokémon GO , so stock up on that Candy while you can.
