In this article, we'll dive into everything you need to know about agenda slides. We'll even provide templates to help you create your own agenda slide!

Table of Contents

What is an agenda slide, what’s the purpose of an agenda slide, what should be included in an agenda slide, 3 tips to write an agenda slide, 10 agenda slide templates for your next presentation, how to make an agenda slide in visme.

  • An agenda slide is like a roadmap that brings structure and organization to your presentation, outlining the main sections and logical flow.
  • It provides more clarity for both the presenter and the audience.
  • A well-designed agenda slide includes main sections or topics, time allocation, slide numbers and visual elements.
  • To create an organized agenda slide, make sure it aligns with your presentation's theme, use clear labels and ensure visual consistency.
  • Visme can give you a unique headstart in creating agenda slides that set you apart with its intuitive editor, professionally designed templates, collaborative features and extensive design assets.

An agenda slide provides a clear overview of what topics you'll be addressing and in what order.

Think of it as a roadmap for your presentation. It helps your audience understand the presentation structure and flow and what to expect.

Incorporating an agenda slide helps you maintain focus and ensures that your message is effectively communicated. With an agenda slide in place, both you and your audience will be on the same page, ready for a cohesive and engaging presentation.

An agenda slide is a perfect start to a great presentation.

But why do we need an agenda slide?

Imagine attending a sales pitch where the presenter jumps from one topic to another without any clear direction. It would be confusing and difficult to follow.

Having an agenda slide in your presentation provides structure and organization. It outlines the main sections or topics you will cover and helps your audience understand the logical flow of your presentation.

During a lengthy presentation, an agenda slide acts as a navigation tool and reference point for both the presenter and the audience.

Additionally, it helps individuals who join the presentation late to catch up quickly. Without an agenda slide, attendees might struggle to understand where they are in the presentation and may feel lost or disconnected.

Create a stunning presentation in less time

Now that we know why we need an agenda slide. Let’s dive deeper into what should be included in your agenda slide.

Main Sections or Topics

The first and most important thing you should include in your agenda slide is the different sections or topics in your presentation.

Made with Visme Presentation Maker

Keep them short and clear. For example, your agenda slide can have the following content.

  • Introduction
  • The Problem
  • The Solution

Time Allocation

Then, the time allocation. This is not a must, but it can be a great way to prepare the audience for what’s to come.

Here, you would include how much time you plan to spend on each section or topic.

Here's an example:

  • Introduction (3 minutes)
  • The Problem (5 minutes)
  • The Solution (10 minutes)
  • Unique Features (15 minutes)
  • Case Studies (8 minutes)
  • Conclusion (3 minutes)

Slide Numbers

As well as the time allocation, you could also choose to include the slide numbers.

This helps the audience keep track of where they are in the presentation, even when they drift off for a few minutes. For example:

  • Introduction (3 minutes - slide 1)
  • The Problem (5 minutes - slides 2 to 4)
  • The Solution (10 minutes - slides 4 to 8)
  • Unique Features (15 minutes - slides 8 to 12)
  • Case Studies (8 minutes - slides 12 to 15)
  • Conclusion (3 minutes - slide 16)

Visual Help

Show, don’t tell. That’s the number one lesson you'll learn in a storytelling class. People reason with visuals better than they resonate with words, so use this to your advantage.

Let's say you're creating a presentation on sustainable energy solutions for a business conference. Here’s how you could include visual elements:

  • Introduction - [Icon of a lightbulb symbolizing innovation]
  • Current Challenges - [Icon of a globe with pollution or emissions]
  • Renewable Energy Sources - [Icon of wind turbines or solar panels]
  • Benefits of Sustainable Energy - [Icons depicting a dollar sign and a leaf]
  • Conclusion - [Icon representing teamwork]

And that’s just one of the many examples. A great way to do this is by using Visme’s free icon finder . Just browse and pick from one of the 10,000+ icons available for you, all within Visme.

When crafting an agenda slide for your presentation, consider the following tips to ensure it effectively communicates the structure and flow of your content.

Keep It Concise

Aim for brevity and clarity when describing each main section or topic on your agenda slide. Use short, simple phrases or labels to provide a clear overview. For example, instead of "In-Depth Analysis of Market Trends and Competitive Landscape", simply say "Market Analysis".

Use a Hierarchical Structure

Organize your agenda slide using a hierarchical structure to depict the relationship between different sections. Use headings and subheadings to visually indicate the main topics and their subtopics. This helps your audience comprehend the overall structure of your presentation. This is what that could look like:

  • Market Size
  • How Does It Work?
  • Case Study 1
  • Case Study 2

Align With Your Presentation's Theme

Make sure that the style of your agenda slide aligns with the overall theme and branding of your presentation. Use consistent fonts, colors and icons to create a cohesive visual experience for your audience.

Remember, an effective agenda slide provides a clear and organized overview of your presentation, enabling your audience to follow along and anticipate what's to come. The visual style is a part of this.

How do I create a PowerPoint Agenda / Table of Contents?

PPT Productivity add-in for PowerPoint makes creating and updating PowerPoint Agenda and Table of Contents slides easy!

How can I create an Agenda in PowerPoint?

There are several ways to create PowerPoint Agenda slides. In this article we will focus on how the new PPT Productivity Agenda Wizard can make creating dynamic PowerPoint Table of Contents or Agenda slides quick and easy.

What is the difference between a Meeting Agenda and a Table of Contents (ToC)?

We often refer to "Agendas" collectively to cover all kinds of document navigators, but there are some different types. Lets start by exploring the difference between a PowerPoint Table of Contents slide (aka ToC) and a PowerPoint Meeting Agenda slide.

A PowerPoint Table of Contents slide generally follows the title slide and lists all sections within the presentation, including section numbers and slide numbers of divider slides/ flysheets. Note that this gets confusing because many consultants refer to the Table of Contents slides as "the Agenda". Your Table of Contents slide should provide a guide, to help navigate your presentation. Using dividers which repeat the table of contents through the presentation (to introduce each new topic) is helpful. Displaying a tracking bar on the dividers helps to remind your audience where they are as they progress through the deck. ToC slides are probably the most common style of Agenda used in PowerPoint.

image of Microsoft PowerPoint agenda slide examples and Table of contents slides with Divider and Flysheet Slides

However, a PowerPoint Meeting Agenda slide contains additional details including Presenter, Duration and Timeslot. Meeting Agenda Slides in PowerPoint are typically used when running workshops, training or seminars which need to adhere to strict timings and/or where room location details need to be provided.

When you create a PowerPoint Meeting Agenda slide using the PPT Productivity Agenda Wizard, you can select what to include by checking the box next to the required details.

PowerPoint agenda using PPT Productivity Agenda Wizard for PowerPoint showing what content is included in a meeting agenda

For example, you may wish to include the Agenda item number and Presenter but not the timeslot. To include the Agenda item number and Presenter details, simply check the box next to the words 'Item Number' and 'Presenter' but uncheck the box next to 'Timeslot'. When the 'Timeslot' box is unchecked, the Duration and Timeslot fields will be removed from your PowerPoint Meeting Agenda slide.

For the purpose of this article when we refer to Agenda slides we will be including both PowerPoint Meeting Agendas and Table of Contents Slides.

1. How to make an Agenda slide in PowerPoint?

Creating an Agenda or Table of Contents in PowerPoint (without the benefit of an add-in) can be quite a tedious task, because you will need to update any slide number references as you add content, or rearrange the order of the agenda items if you rearrange the slides in your presentation.

However PPT Productivity add-in for PowerPoint makes creating Agendas easier with the Agenda Wizard for PPT feature. The feature includes PowerPoint Agenda Templates and updates your Agenda as you continue to work on your presentation.

The PPT Productivity PowerPoint Agenda Wizard makes creating Agenda and Contents slides in PowerPoint super quick and easy!

To create a PowerPoint Agenda with the PPT Productivity PowerPoint Agenda Wizard :

  • Open the Agenda Wizard from the Format Toolbar
  • In the Agenda Wizard, select whether you would like to create either a Meeting Agenda or Table of Contents
  • Type the first Agenda item in the text box below 'Agenda Item'
  • Hit 'Enter' to start a new line and add the next Agenda item
  • Repeat this until you have entered all of your Agenda items
  • Once all Agenda items have been entered, click the 'Format Agenda' tab to make any formatting changes (see point 12 for more information on how to make formatting updates to your PowerPoint Agenda slides) required. Or select 'Create' to generate your Agenda / Table of Contents Slide

2. How can I create a PowerPoint Agenda using PowerPoint sections?

PPT Productivity's Agenda Wizard offers you the option to use PowerPoint Sections for your agenda (PowerPoint Sections are a way to segment your document in standard PowerPoint). You can also create an agenda using the Agenda Wizard without using PowerPoint sections.

To create a PowerPoint Agenda using PowerPoint Sections , first add the sections in your document. To do this, right click in the thumbnail view beside your slides in PowerPoint and select 'Add Section'. Each time you do this, PowerPoint will insert a new section and prompt you with the option to name the section. Repeat this step until you have set up your sections through the presentation.

Once you have created all of your sections, open the PPT Productivity Agenda Wizard from the PPT Productivity Format Toolbar.

  • In the Agenda Wizard, select if you would like to create either a Meeting Agenda or Table of Contents format.
  • Then click the 'Import Agenda Items' button at the bottom of the PPT Productivity PowerPoint Agenda Wizard window (refer to the screenshot below).

image showing How to create a PowerPoint Agenda / PowerPoint Table of Contents

  • When you select 'Import Agenda Items', you will see a number of import options (different locations where you might want to import your agenda content from). Select the 'Load Section Names' option and click OK (refer to the screenshot below).

image showing how to create Microsoft PowerPoint Agenda Slides using PowerPoint Sections

  • The section names you added in the earlier step will appear in the Preview panel. If you click OK these will be imported as your list of Agenda items. You can then either select the 'Format Agenda' tab to make any formatting updates, or simply click 'Create' to create your PowerPoint Agenda Slide from PowerPoint Section names.

3. Can I create a PowerPoint Agenda from data copied to my clipboard?

Yes - you can use data copied on your clipboard to create your agenda. To create a PowerPoint Agenda slide from data copied to your clipboard:

  • First, copy the content required by selecting the text and Ctrl + C keyboard shortcut (or right mouse click, 'copy' to save the data to your clipboard).
  • Open the PPT Productivity Agenda Wizard from the Format Toolbar.
  • In the Agenda Wizard, select whether you would like to create either a Meeting Agenda or Table of Contents format
  • Select 'Import Agenda Items'
  • In the 'Import Agenda Items' dialogue, select 'Load from Clipboard'. The copied content will appear in the 'Preview Agenda Items' window
  • Click OK to close the 'Import Agenda Items' dialogue.

Agenda Slide in meeting

Your audience could leave before the presentation is through if you don’t let them know what engaging and informed material is coming up next. Your agenda slides effectively inform your audience of the main takeaways they might expect from your talk.

Like a table of contents, an agenda slide lists the subjects covered during a presentation or meeting. Typically, the themes are hyperlinked to the respective parts so that viewers may easily go to the slide they desire by just clicking on the topic.

Why use agenda slides?

It is usually preferable that the crowd has a general idea of the topics you will be discussing. Agenda slides do this. It’s almost like a warm-up for the crowd. It also provides your presentation with structure. A concise agenda slide design informs the audience about the topic of your presentation and offers an outline of the items that will be discussed. Without an agenda slide, you keep your audiences in the dark.

The agenda also assists in priming the audience. It is a term commonly used in psychology to describe an enhanced sensitivity to specific stimuli due to earlier experience. When we watch a happy movie, for example, we tend to perceive the world around us from a more positive perspective and notice positive things we would not have before. For more information on the importance of agenda slides, check out this article.

If the agenda is messed up with a jumbled slide with too many divisions, you’ve already lost your audience. You may have had valuable ideas to discuss with your audience, but you drove them away with an overload of information. As a result, on your agenda slide, always include just the most crucial elements of the presentation.

Types of Agenda Slides

Steps to Design Agenda Slides

An agenda slide is usually the initial slide that the viewer sees after the title page, thus it must be visually appealing. It is possible to accomplish this by adding a background image and utilizing icons and symbols in the subject list panel.

Choose a graphic that conveys seriousness. If you’re giving a presentation in the boardroom, the conference table might be useful. When speaking on a stage, the platform or the audience might be an excellent backdrop image. Alternatively, you may choose any business image depicting experts engaged in a discussion, a clock or a calendar indicating that time is of importance, a business desk, and so on.

presentation powerpoint agenda

Insert text boxes and use catchy titles

Instead of a regular text box, you may use the “Insert” option to insert a “SmartArt” graphic. It includes a collection of pre-formatted text boxes and graphics for displaying a group of objects’ process flow, hierarchy, and so on. For agenda slides, the “List” type is recommended.

presentation powerpoint agenda

You can even make your own forms.

  • Navigate to the Insert tab.
  • Select any form in the Shapes dropdown menu.
  • Construct the shape on the slide by dragging.
  • Optionally, select the Rotate dropdown option in the Format tab to rotate it in whichever direction you choose.
  • Duplicate the form until you obtain the required number of shapes.
  • Place a circle in every box and an icon in each box.

It is advised that you use completely editable vector icons so you may modify their colour, size, and so on without affecting the icon’s quality. After that, just place text boxes within the shapes to type out your agenda items.

Consider Hyperlinks

While in presentation mode, the user may move to the correct slide by simply tapping on the topic. You insert a hyperlink by right-clicking the chosen text and selecting “Hyperlink.” A dialogue box will open, and you can then navigate to the “This Document” tab and choose the page to which you want to connect. This is especially useful for presentations that include many slides and is shared with the audience. For conferences or speeches, this is rarely used.

Outline for making agenda slides in PowerPoint

Step 1 : In the “Click to add title” box, put “Agenda” or your desired agenda slide title, such as “Today’s Topic.” then pull it to the slide’s top.

Step 2 : In the subtitle text box, write the first topic of the agenda, such as “Introductions.” Hit the “Enter” key to create a line of spacing between lines. Fill in the blanks on your slide with all of the items.

Step 3 : Highlight all of the text. Click the “Home” tab and the “Numbering” button in the ribbon’s paragraph area to add numbering to the agenda items. You may also use the drop-down arrow on the “Numbering” button to add A, B, C, or another formatting to the agenda topics instead of numbers. You don’t have to use numbers; you may alternatively use arrows or nothing.

Steps 2 and 3 can be substituted with the SmartArt Graphic described above. The graphic will automatically fill in the blanks for you to construct a list, provide a numbering, and give you space to enter your text.

Step 4 : Select the “Design” tab and move your mouse over the elements in the Themes column. There are several themes available with various backgrounds, text colours and sizes, and design components. If desired, select one to apply to the slide. You may also adjust specific text looks such as font type, size, colour and positioning using the Home tab’s Font section of the ribbon.

Step 5 : Select “Picture” under the “Insert” option. Double-click the corporate logo by navigating to it, dragging it into the slide’s vacant space, ideally to the left or right of the title.

How to Present Agenda Slides

The agenda requires hooks in order to keep the audience’s attention during the presentation. A hook persuades the audience to pay attention. It clearly explains why the information is valuable. The subjects that will be discussed in the presentation are simply listed on the agenda. The audience may or may not take the agenda’s worth into account.

The standard agenda slide has the drawback of being tedious and lengthy for the presenter to go through, and also gives the audience the option of choosing not to listen at specific times, if at all. As a result, the agenda presentation must be interesting.

To understand how to use hooks, you can refer to this article or even this video linked below

Additionally, it is advised not to start your speech with an agenda. Start off with something more engaging. For ideas, see this article . Deliver your agenda after you’ve concluded your opening.

Creating an effective agenda slide in PowerPoint is crucial for management consultants. An agenda slide serves as the backbone of any presentation, providing a clear roadmap and ensuring that your audience remains on the same page. In this guide, we’ll cover how to create an engaging and visually appealing agenda slide in PowerPoint, leveraging the best PowerPoint agenda templates and examples.

Also, you are more than welcome to scroll to the bottom to download our PowerPoint agenda template!

Agenda slides are great for meetings - this agenda template is in Ampler's theme.

Why an Agenda Slide is Essential

An agenda slide helps to structure your PowerPoint presentation and keeps your audience informed about the key topics that will be discussed. It sets the stage for an organized presentation, allowing participants to follow along easily and understand the flow in meetings. Whether you’re preparing for a business conference, project proposals, a discussion or brainstorming session, an agenda slide is a must-have. Agendas are handy when presenting a schedule, discussing business plans, time allocation or your next event, as they provide a reference point and outlines the topic.

Steps to Create an Agenda Slide in PowerPoint

Using meeting agenda templates makes it much easier to build meeting agendas. The use of graphics or icons can lively up meeting agendas.

Start with a Template

Using a PowerPoint agenda slide template can save you time and ensure a professional look. Templates provide pre-designed layouts that are easy to customize with just a few clicks. Search the Microsoft PowerPoint library or platforms like Ampler.io for a wide range of agenda PowerPoint templates. You can also use google slides, simply type ‘google agenda templates’ or ‘google agenda presentation templates’ in the search bar.

Add the Title and Date

The first slide of your presentation should introduce the meeting agenda. Include the title of the meeting, date, and any other relevant information at the top of the slide.

List Agenda Items

Clearly outline the agenda elements. Use bullet points to list each item, ensuring they are concise and easy to read. This gives your audience a clear overview of what to expect.

Organize by Time

If applicable, allocate time for each agenda item. This helps in managing the time effectively and ensures that the meeting stays on track.

Use Visual Elements

Incorporate visual components like icons, images, or graphics to make the slide more engaging. Well-designed agenda slides not only informs but also captures the audience’s attention.

Customize the Design

Customize the colors and design elements to align with your brand. Consistency in design enhances the professional appearance of your presentation.

Creating an Agenda Slide Without an Agenda Template

While templates are convenient, you might want to create an agenda slide from scratch to fully customize it to your specific needs. Here’s how to do it:

Start with a Blank Slide

Open PowerPoint and insert a new blank slide (or use google slides). This will serve as your canvas for creating the agenda slide.

Add a Title

At the top of the slide, add a text box for the title. Type in the meeting name and date to provide context, e.g., ‘Schedule, structure, and participants of our upcoming event on 12th of June’. Use a larger font size for the title to make it stand out.

Insert a Table or Text Boxes

To organize the agenda items, you can use either a table or multiple text boxes. A table can help in keeping the layout clean and structured, while text boxes offer more flexibility for elaborate slide designs.

  • Insert a table with two columns. In the left side column, list the time slots, and in the right column, list the corresponding agenda items.

You can build your own agenda template for meetings using text boxes and tables. Simply name the file 'Agenda template for meetings' and you can easily find it again.

  • Add individual text boxes for each agenda item. Arrange them vertically, ensuring consistent spacing.
  • Use bullet points within each text box to list sub-points or detailed topics under each agenda item.

presentation powerpoint agenda

Customize with Icons and Images

Enhance the visual appeal of your agendas by adding icons and images. Icons can represent different parts of the agendas, making it visually engaging and easier to follow.

Format the Slide

How to Create an Effective PowerPoint Agenda Slide: Tips & Techniques

How to Create an Effective PowerPoint Agenda Slide: Tips & Techniques

If you’ve been in the realm of Microsoft PowerPoint presentations for any stretch, you’re likely aware of the pivotal role a well-crafted agenda slide plays. Beyond just a mere introduction, it sets the tone, outlines the journey, and primes your audience for what lies ahead. Essentially, it’s your roadmap to a successful presentation.

Why an Agenda Slide Matters

Picture this: you step into a meeting, the presenter dives straight into the content without a roadmap. Confusion ensues, attention wanes, and before you know it, the meeting details. As an e ntrepreneur aptly puts it, meetings sans effective agendas are nothing short of time-wasters. Enter the agenda slide – your antidote to chaos. It’s not just about structure; it’s about respect for your audience’s time and attention. By offering a clear overview of what’s to come, you empower your audience to engage more meaningfully, free from uncertainty or distractions.

What Constitutes an Agenda Slide?

In its essence, an agenda slide serves as the inaugural slide of your PowerPoint presentation, setting the stage for what follows. It’s your opportunity to succinctly outline the topics you’ll cover and the order in which you’ll address them. Think of it as the table of contents for your presentation – a roadmap that guides both you and your audience through the narrative.

Now, let’s delve into the nuts and bolts of crafting an agenda slide that commands attention and fosters engagement.

Types of Agenda Slides & How to Create Them

Hyperlinked table of contents agenda slide.

Ideal For: Presentations to leaders, executives, or audiences craving straightforward navigation.

How It’s Done :

1. Create a simple numbered or bulleted list of agenda points to be included at the beginning of your presentation.

2. NOTE: This can be a list of each slide’s actual title, key takeaways, general concept(s) each slide covers. If you choose to focus on key takeaways or concepts, try to keep your descriptions clear and concise.

3. Highlight the text of your first agenda item.

4. Right-click on the highlighted text and click Hyperlink.

5. Select Place in This Document and select the corresponding slide within your presentation.

6. Click OK.

7. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for each item on the agenda.

Zoom Section Links Agenda Slide

Ideal For: This works well for presentations with clearly defined sections and allows you to bounce between the topics when necessary.

1. Once your PowerPoint is complete, navigate over to the slide preview panel on the left side of the screen and click on the space between the two slides where you want your first section to start. (Wherever you click, the section will include all slides that follow unless there is another section later in the presentation, then it will include all slides up until that point.) A line will appear to show where your new section begins.

2. Navigate to the Home tab at the top of the screen and click on Section, then Add Section.

3. Give the section a name.

4. NOTE: At this point, I like to create a slide that simply says the section name. It allows you to create more uniform section images later.

5. Click away from the section and it will automatically save.

6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 for any additional sections you wish to include.

7. Once all sections are complete, insert a new blank slide for your agenda.

8. Navigate to the Insert tab at the top of the screen and click the drop-down menu next to Zoom then click Section Zoom.

9. Select the sections you wish to include and click Insert.

10. The section images will automatically be added in a cascaded stack on the slide. Click away from the images and then click each one to drag and drop to the correct placement on the slide.

Visual Roadmap Agenda Slide

Ideal For: This is great for presentations geared towards interns, new hires, or presentations that focus on steps within a process or system.

How it’s Done:

1.Create a simple bulleted list of the sections to be included in your presentation.

2. With your text box selected, navigate to the Home tab at the top of the screen and click Convert to SmartArt and choose from the dropdown menu.

3. Once you select one of the options, a new menu will appear at the top of the screen. You can use this menu to preview other styles. I recommend selecting from the Process section. Some of my favorite types of SmartArt for this are Basic Process, Picture Accent Process, Alternating Flow, Basic Timeline, Basic Chevron Process, Vertical Chevron List, and Upward Arrow.

4. Depending on the chart you choose, you may also have additional space to include more details about each part of the presentation.

5. Adjust the shape colors, size, and style to match your presentation.

6. Additionally, you may want to link each step in the process to a section or slide. To create a linked shape, right-click the shape and click Hyperlink. Select Place in This Document, choose the appropriate slide and then click OK.

While PowerPoint doesn’t offer a standard agenda template per se, you can harness the power of PowerPoint Designer to automate slide creation based on your agenda. Conclusion: Elevate Your Presentations with a Stellar Agenda Slide

1. Keep It Simple

Don't put too much text on your agenda templates in PPT. This can overwhelm the audience. When adding objects, don't add too many. Having too many objects on one slide can distract the audience.

When choosing a theme, don't choose one that overwhelms your agenda template in PPT. If your theme is too busy, you'll overwhelm or distract the audience from your main points. When choosing the color scheme for your slideshow, choose colors that complement each other. If your color scheme clashes, it can distract your audience from the information you're presenting.

These tips and templates will help you create an amazing PowerPoint agenda:

3. Use Charts

You may have data to present in your agenda template in PPT. Having a lot of data on one slide can be hard for the audience to remember or even understand. Use charts and graphs to break up huge chunks of data. Charts and graphs can also help the audience visualize the data you're presenting.

Read this useful article to add amazing charts to your agenda slide template:

4. Choose Appropriate Fonts

When deciding on how you want your presentation to look, be careful when choosing the font. Selecting a font that's hard to read can distract the audience in your agenda slide. How to Create a Fantastic PowerPoint Agenda Slide Template in 5 Steps [Presentation Hackathon 4]

How to Create a Fantastic PowerPoint Agenda Slide Template in 5 Steps [Presentation Hackathon 4]

Have you heard of the word Priming ? More popularly used in psychology, it “refers to an increased sensitivity to certain stimuli due to prior experience.” After watching a scary movie alone at night, you become more sensitive and thus primed to slightest noises around you like creak of the bed and rustling of leaves outside the window!

Why are we talking about priming here? Your agenda slide serves the same purpose in your presentation. It positively primes your audience as to what they would be getting out of your talk- the key takeaways. So when you advance to further segments in your talk, the audience recall that it was second, third or fourth on your agenda list.

But first ask yourself- Do I really need an agenda slide in my presentation? Well yes, if you are presenting at a conference with many topics to cover, it’s advisable as well as expected that the audience have a little idea beforehand of what key areas you are going to throw light on. It’s like a little warm-up exercise for the audience. It also gives a structure to your talk, which otherwise can become a rambling affair.

If this part, however, is botched up with a chaotic slide that has way too many sections and subsections, you have lost your audience even before you could introduce yourself. You might have had great insights to share with your listeners but you scared them with “information overload”. So, ALWAYS include only the most important sections of the presentation in your agenda slide.

Say you have 6 main areas that you’ll be covering. Most presenters, for lack of ideas or other reasons, will tend to leave their agenda slide completely naked, except listing out the 6 items as bullet points! It’s bad priming: audience are only being predisposed to expect boring, ugly slides from there onwards.

Ugly slide full of bullet points

Conversely, if you create an eye-catchy agenda slide, you’ll succeed in wetting their mental appetite. Here’s a re-designed agenda slide that you can create in a few minutes for your upcoming presentation:

Design Impressive Agenda Slide for PowerPoint Presentation

Interested in knowing how we transformed the above slide in a matter of just 5 minutes? Let us show you step by step how to go about designing that slide:

Step 1: Cover the slide with striking visual

For an agenda slide, choose a visual that means serious business. If you are presenting in a boardroom, the meeting table can be a good idea. If you are presenting in a conference hall to hundreds or thousands in audience, the stage or the audience can be a good background image. Or you can simply go in for any business image showing professionals engaged in a brainstorming session, a wall clock showing time is of essence, a busy business desk etc.

You need not stress yourself out over the right visual since the image will be masked out and only used to set the tone for the presentation agenda. We chose a roundtable for our agenda slide. if you want to use the same, you can download it for free from Pixabay: an awesome free resource for professional images.

Conference Table

Step 2: Give Your Image a Wireframe Effect

One of the latest design trends on social media is using a faded image in the background. There is a reason why designers do this. They need to highlight the content- perhaps a quote, announcement, etc.- and not the visual. The visual is inserted to add value to the message, reinforce the words, and not draw complete attention to itself.

This visual effect- to be there and yet not be there- can also be achieved by the wireframe effect. This term is used in architecture and website development. Put simply, it’s a blueprint and this awesome effect can be applied on any image using the “Glow Edges” Artistic Effect in PowerPoint!

Here’s how to do this:

  • Select the image
  • Under the Format tab, click the Artistic Effects dropdown
  • Select the last option Glow Edges (see the screenshot below)

Giving Glow Edges Artisitic Effect in PowerPoint

Step 3: Add a Transparent Shape over the Visual

The effect looks cool but is still too attention grabbing. Any text placed over it will have a heavy contrast but look jarring. To mask it out further, follow these steps:

  • Choose a rectangular box from the Shapes menu (under the Insert tab)
  • Right click on the shape, click the Format Shape option
  • Give it a solid fill (your brand color or a professional blue will look good)
  • Set the transparency (between 10-20%) so that the image beneath the shape can be seen

Format Shape and giving transparency in PowerPoint

Step 4: Place Text Tags over the Slide

Now comes the time for spelling out your business agenda, the most important thing in the slide. Rather than simply pasting the agenda as bullet points, we will place each agenda as tags on the slide. Have a look at the slide below to know what we mean:

Text Tags to Highlight Content in Slide

It’s pretty simple to create these shapes on your own. All you have to do is:

  • Click the Insert tab
  • From the Shapes dropdown menu, under Rectangles , select the Round Same Side Corner Rectangle
  • Drag to draw the rectangle on the slide
  • Under the Format tab, click the Rotate dropdown menu
  • Click Rotate Right 90 degree
  • Select the rounded rectangle shape and drag the yellow dot on the rounded side (see screenshot below) to the center of that side

Step by Step Process to create tags in PowerPoint

Duplicate the shape till you have six such tags. Lastly, rotate three to the left so that you have all tags facing each other. That leaves us with the last step.

Step 5: Insert Circle in each Tag and Add Icon for Each

It’s difficult to have an awesome slide without having small visual representations called icons. But first, insert a circle from the Shapes menu and place it on the rounded side of each rectangular tag. Give it a dark blue solid fill to create rich contrast.

Now, choose an icon for each of your agenda and place them inside the circles. We recommend you choose fully editable, vector icons so that you can change their color, size, etc. without having any effect on the quality of the icon. If you want the icons used above, you can simply download them  from our website .

And that’s it, you have created one awesome agenda slide that will be hard to forget for your audience. Have a look at the final slide:

The above layout was just one of the ways to list out your presentation agenda attractively. There are thousands of other ways you can re-design it. Check out these awesome agenda slide templates created by our PowerPoint Presentation Design Services team :

Agenda Template 1: Half Page Image Layout

Agenda Template 3: Parallelogram Layout

We learnt about parallelogram in elementary school- a quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides. Turns out it can be an interesting visual element for your presentations. Look how the parallelogram effect below gives a sophisticated look to your agenda slide.

This agenda presentation template is just a click away.

Agenda Template 4: Full Page Image Layout with Parallelogram Effect

A slight variation of the above template is to let the image cover the complete slide and place a parallelogram to highlight the agenda list. The agenda items can then be placed on the edges of the shape to create a unique design that looks professional and creative at the same time.

Beautiful Agenda Slide Layout with Image and Icons

You can simply replace the content in the slide above by downloading our PowerPoint agenda slide template .

Alternatively, you can use steps of parallelograms to create a neat list of agenda points that oozes professionalism thoroughly. Here’s the template:

Agenda Template 5: Split Image Layout

Splitting image into multiple parts captures attention like none other. Here’s why: it forces the audience to fill the gaps and visualize the complete picture in their mind. It piques their curiosity and forces them to actively engage in understanding the slide rather than passively view it. You can then place each agenda on the split image to create a knockout agenda slide.

presentation powerpoint agenda

Using the agenda element you can manage the agenda of your presentation, create a table of contents and add or rearrange individual chapters. All agenda slides are automatically kept in sync as you edit the presentation.

19.1 Inserting a chapter

image.

When editing the agenda, you can also select a chapter heading and press Ctrl + Alt + ↓ . This will insert a new chapter after the one currently selected.

19.2 Reordering chapters

While editing an agenda slide you can change the order of chapters using the following methods:

  • select a chapter heading, then hold Shift + Alt and use ↑ ↓ to move the current chapter up or down,
  • drag the chapter heading to a new location using the mouse or
  • drag while holding Ctrl to duplicate the chapter.

If you move a chapter, slides belonging to that chapter are moved along, i.e., all slides between the agenda slide of the moved chapter and the agenda slide of the following chapter.

In the slide sorter view you can reorder agenda slides or copy, paste and duplicate them in the same manner as normal slides. If you change the order of chapters, all agenda slides are updated accordingly.

19.3 Placing the agenda

The agenda element is centered on the slide if you do not change the placement. To move it, you can lock the top, bottom, left or right edge to a specific position.

For example, if a logo or image is displayed on the left side of every agenda slide, you can lock the left edge to leave enough space between logo and agenda and the agenda element will grow to the right to accommodate longer chapter headings. You should choose the correct agenda placement after inserting the first chapter slide, as subsequent chapter slides will then use the same placement automatically.

First, you need to select the whole agenda element. Position the mouse pointer so that all chapter headings are surrounded by an orange boundary and click once. Alternatively, use PowerPoint’s lasso selection to include all chapter headings. Afterwards, the whole agenda is highlighted with a blue boundary and every edge shows three handles: at both ends and in the center.

image.

The size of the agenda element is always determined dynamically, depending on the length and number of chapter headings. Therefore, you should lock two edges of the agenda element at most, so that in can grow and shrink by placing the other edges dynamically.

To change the position of a locked edge, drag the lock icon to another position. To unlock an edge and let think-cell place the agenda automatically again, simply drag the lock icon away from the ruler.

By default, the left and right edges of all agenda elements are snapped together across slides, as explained in 15.1.3 Snapping text boxes across slides . This means that when you fix the position of the edge of one of them, the corresponding edge of all other agenda elements is also moved and fixed to that position on their respective slides.

You can add or remove snap connections by dragging the handles that are shown when selecting the whole agenda element (see also 15.5 Unsnapping text boxes or changing snap connections ). For example, if you would like the top edge of all agenda elements to always be in the same position on all agenda slides:

  • Insert a second agenda slide, for example by selecting the chapter heading and pressing Ctrl + Alt + ↓ .

An agenda element selected on a slide, with the mouse cursor hovering over its top handle.

  • Click and hold the handle on the top edge.
  • While holding the mouse button, switch to the other agenda slide by scrolling with the mouse wheel, or using PageUp or PageDown .

Snap indicator on top edge between agenda elements on different slides.

  • Release the mouse button.

Now the top edges of the two agenda elements are also snapped together, so that their position on the slide will always be the same. When you add additional agenda slides, the top edges of the agenda elements on these slides will inherit this snap connection as explained in 19.9 Role model .

19.4 Multi-level hierarchy of chapters

The chapter hierarchy is determined by text levels. PowerPoint provides several ways to change these. You can use PowerPoint’s buttons for increasing and decreasing the list level. Alternatively, hold down Shift + Alt and use the arrow keys ← and → .

image.

Agenda slides will be hidden during the slide show if there are no slides between a chapter and its first sub-chapter, i.e., the main chapter does not have content of its own. This avoids having to fast-forward chapter slides until you reach the actual content during slide shows. It is achieved by automatically setting PowerPoint’s “Hide Slide” attribute.

For example, when a chapter “A” contains a sub-chapter “A1”, and there are no content slides between the agenda slides for “A” and “A1”, then the agenda slide for “A” is automatically set to “hidden” in PowerPoint. Similarly, when the condition no longer holds, the slide is automatically “unhidden” in PowerPoint.

image.

19.5 Multiple agendas in a single presentation

image.

Chapters after a splitter are not included in agenda slides before the splitter and vice versa. The different sections in the presentation have independent agendas.

Typically, a splitter is used to separate a backup section from the main part of the presentation. In this case, usually the backup section has its own title slide, which just says “Backup” (with no agenda or overview on it). This is where the agenda splitter should be placed. The chapters after this slide do not appear on agenda slides at the beginning of the presentation and the backup slides are not moved along when moving the last chapter of the main part of the presentation.

Note: If you place the agenda splitter on the first agenda slide in the backup, the splitter would be moved along if you move this chapter later and would also be duplicated if you duplicate the agenda slide.

19.6 Inserting a table of contents

image.

If the presentation already contains chapter slides, the contents slide will be inserted before the first chapter slide. If there are no chapter slides yet, an empty contents slide will be inserted after the current slide. Simply use PowerPoint’s slide sorter view to move it to the desired position.

19.7 Styling the agenda

When a chapter heading is selected, the floating toolbar offers controls for changing the font size and style (see 6.5.1 Font ), the fill (see 3.8.1 Color and fill ) and the style of the outline (see 3.8.6 Line style ). When an outline is used, you can also change its color.

The styling of a chapter heading is used for all chapters of the same type. For example, if you assign a blue fill and dashed outline to a highlighted top-level chapter heading, all other highlighted top-level chapters will be styled in the same way.

think-cell conceptual smart elements: styling chapter headings.

When styling the agenda, think-cell differentiates between the following types:

  • chapter is current and at top level
  • chapter is top-level and contains the current chapter
  • chapter is top-level but does not contain current chapter
  • chapter is current but not at top level
  • chapter is an immediate child of current chapter, and current chapter is top-level
  • neither chapter nor current chapter are top-level, and chapter is not on the path from the top-level chapter to the current chapter, but either one of its siblings is on this path or it is an immediate child of the current chapter (chapter is “in subtree of current”)
  • chapter is not top-level and not current and not “in subtree of current”, but the top-level chapter of this chapter is current
  • chapter is not top-level and not current and not “in subtree of current”, but this chapter is below the same top-level as the current chapter
  • any other chapter (except table of contents)
  • chapter is in table of contents, and chapter is top-level
  • chapter is in table of contents, and chapter is not top-level
  • neither chapter nor current chapter are top-level, and chapter is on the path from the top-level chapter to the current chapter

image.

Using the floating toolbar you can also choose between predefined styles. Usually, only top-level headings are shown in the table of contents. The styles suffixed with (expanded) show all chapter headings.

You can change the properties of all chapters on any agenda slide. You do not need to switch to the specific chapter’s slide.

19.8 Tips and tricks

You can use all four arrow keys for chapter shortcuts: Shift + Alt and ↑ ↓ for reordering chapters and Shift + Alt and ← → for changing the hierarchy level.

In slide view, double-clicking the orange selection frame around a chapter heading takes you to the associated agenda slide. A single click accomplishes the same during a slide show.

Selecting a chapter heading and changing the font size and style using the floating toolbar applies the same change to all other chapters of the same type. However, selecting part of the chapter heading text and using PowerPoint’s controls, e.g. for italicizing a proper name, will change this chapter’s text on all agenda slides but will not affect other chapters.

19.9 Role model

When the second and any subsequent agenda slide is inserted in a presentation, it is created as a copy of the closest existing agenda slide, including shapes on the slide and the master setting. Thus, if the user has applied a specific slide master or custom layout to an agenda slide, this setting is inherited by all agenda slides that are created later.

Powerpoint tips

Jul 30, 2014

Most business presentations start with an agenda slide, and it’s usually a bullet point list devoid of any design. If you want to capture and retain your audience’s attention, the agenda slide needs to be more than just a flimsy outline.

Discussing the agenda is an effective way to start presentations in a more corporate and formal setting. It’s your opportunity to frame your presentation in the right direction and show your audience that the information you’re sharing is crucial. But a bullet point list doesn’t stand out. You need an agenda slide that has visual impact.

presentation powerpoint agenda

As you can see, nothing about this slide stands out. While the text is certainly minimal, there’s nothing else in the slide that we can consider eye-catching. It’s too bland, and it will definitely set the tone that your presentation is going to be a pretty dull affair.

The key to great PowerPoint design, whether it’s for the agenda or any other slide, is the use of interesting images. Visual has enormous effect on our ability to learn and retain information.

Now, you can tell that even simple illustrations make a difference. Each point has more impact because they’re illustrated by symbols that your audience is familiar with. I even added a bit more flair by adding animations. I chose to have each point of the agenda revealed bit by bit, so the audience won’t be tempted to read ahead from where I’m talking.

Try out these ideas for yourself, or check out our other PowerPoint design tips. However you choose to enhance your agenda slide, make sure that your key points won’t be clouded by too many or too few design elements.

Crafting an Impactful PowerPoint Agenda Slide (The Ultimate Guide)

In the world of presentations, the agenda slide is often underestimated. But it holds the key to engagement. Wondering how to unlock its potential? This article is your guide to crafting a captivating PowerPoint agenda slide that will captivate your audience.

Part 1. What is an Agenda Slide?

An agenda slide in PowerPoint is a slide that provides an overview of the presentation's topics and order. It is typically the first slide in a presentation and serves as a roadmap for the audience.

Here are the key elements of an effective agenda slide:

Title: Prominently displayed at the top of the slide.

Agenda items: Listed in the order they will be discussed, using specific and concise language.

Time allocation (optional): Estimated time spent on each topic.

Additional information, such as the presenter's name, date, time, and location, can be included if necessary. However, keep the slide concise and visually appealing.

Here are some tips for creating an effective agenda slide:

Use clear and concise language.

Be specific and avoid using vague or generic language.

List the agenda items in the order in which they will be discussed.

Estimate how much time you will be spending on each topic, if possible.

Use visuals to make the slide more visually appealing and engaging.

Proofread the slide carefully before presenting it.

An effective agenda slide can help you start your presentation off on the right foot and keep your audience engaged throughout.

Part 2. How to Use Agenda Slide in PowerPoint?

Agenda slides in PowerPoint are essential for organizing your presentation content and providing your audience with a clear roadmap of what to expect. Here, we'll walk you through three different methods for creating agenda slides, each with its own unique approach.

Method 1: Hyperlinked Table of Contents

Step 1: Organize your presentation.

Step 2: Insert a new slide for the agenda.

Step 3 : Add hyperlinks for each item.

Step 4: Link them to respective slides.

Step 5: Test in presentation mode.

Method 2: Zoom Section Links

Step 1: Plan presentation sections.

Step 2: Create an agenda slide.

Step 3: Insert Zoom links for each section.

Step 4: Test links in presentation mode.

Method 3: Visual Roadmap

Step 1: Design a visual roadmap.

Step 2: Insert a new slide.

Step 3: Add your roadmap.

Step 4: Include section titles.

The best method depends on your specific needs and the purpose of your presentation.

Hyperlinked table of contents: Concise and informative

Zoom section links: Visually appealing and easy to follow.

Visual roadmap: Visually appealing and informative

Choose the method that best suits your needs and create an effective agenda slide to start your presentation off on the right foot.

Part 3. Usages of Agenda Slide

Tracking changes and agenda slides are essential tools for professional PowerPoint presentations and online project management. Tracking changes allows collaborators to see each other's edits and feedback, making it easier to produce a polished and accurate final product. It is also useful for tracking progress and identifying any areas of disagreement or confusion.

Agenda slides provide structure and direction for both presenters and audiences. They help to ensure that meetings and presentations stay on track and that all important topics are covered. Agenda slides can also be used to communicate expectations and roles to team members working on online projects.

Here are some specific examples of how I have used tracking changes and agenda slides in my professional work:

Tracking changes: I recently collaborated with a team of engineers to create a presentation for a new product launch. We used tracking changes to share feedback on each other's work and to ensure that the presentation was accurate and up to date.

Agenda slides: I regularly use agenda slides to lead team meetings and presentations. This helps to keep everyone on the same page and to ensure that we cover all the important topics. I also use agenda slides to communicate expectations to team members working on online projects.

Overall, tracking changes and agenda slides are essential tools for professional PowerPoint presentations and online project management. They can help to improve communication, collaboration, and efficiency.
