Research Methodology The researchers selected short stories written by Filipino-American writers that were published in the Unites States. The study scrutinized male short story writers' multigenerational roles of Filipino women. It specifically analyzed six Filipino short stories such as Waywaya by F. Sionil Jose for the Pre-Colonial Period (900-1565); Guardia de Honor by Nick Joaquin for the Spanish Period (1565-1898); The Maid, the Man, and the Wife by Manuel Arguilla, for the Early 20th Century Period (1901-1950); Kara’s Place by Luis Joaquin Katigbak, for the Late 20th Century Period (1951-2000); and Goats 4 Sale by Jose Dalisay, for the 21st Century or Contemporary Period (2001-Present). Moreover, the study employed a descriptive qualitative research design. It utilized two major critical approaches to literature: feminist literary criticism and new criticism. The results revealed that the male writers described Filipino women’s roles in multigenerational periods by modifying the female characters’ behavior characteristics, communication patterns, and sources of power. The male short story writers differentiated women’s roles by adhering to and rejecting diverse gender practices in multigenerational periods. Likewise, they operated imagery in creating vivid mental pictures and aided the readers’ imagination in envisioning the characters and scenes. They employed more imagery to conceptualize the scenes and characters in the story and to create more vivid mental images for their readers. The general portrayals of Filipino women in the selected short stories converged in sensitive and discriminating illustrations of gender roles.

Plenty of media is used, such as newspapers, magazines, novels, and movies to share information and incorporate some life values, including gender equality values. The collection of short stories entitled NING was written by Irma Argiyanti. She is an active Lombok writer. This research aims to identify the writer's ideology through the artwork (the short story collection). This methodological framework was adopted from Fairclough’s concept of the three-dimensional model, explored gender representation in the short stories, and tried to identify the truth behind the texts' ideology. The results show that the stories represent implicitly and explicitly gender equality values. Therefore, the topics and the stories' flow provide patriarchy, women empowerment, and equality values in the family. This paper examines existing literature to answer the research question, “how does gender affect female fiction writers’ writing?” Research reveals that gender influences female fiction writers and the works they create through the writers’ personal and professional experiences as well as the sociocultural experiences and expectations placed upon them due to their gender. Gender also affects writing style, word choice, and depictions of gender in the writers’ works. While gender’s influence on the authors and their writing is often a reflection of a dominant patriarchal narrative, it can also create alternatives to this narrative and foster support and empowerment for and among female writers.

Under Gender Criticism, the researchers analysed Carlos Bulosan’s My Father Goes to Court to unveil the biases, stereotypes, issues, and tendencies as regard gender through the roles played by the characters in the story. Results show that on the surface, the male characters portrayed their roles based on what the society and culture accorded or dictated to them as authoritative, powerful, and dominant. Similarly, female characters were projected as powerless, weak, affective, and secondary to men. However, consciously or unconsciously, both characters crossed the borders and the lines of each other by performing roles not expected of them. ABSTRACT This paper is entitled “A Psychoanalytic and Socio-Cultural Study of Ten Short Stories by Nine Filipino Authors: Implications to the Teaching of Basic Literature Courses”. It underwent in-depth analyses using Sigmund Freud’s Psychoanalytic Theory and Lev Vygotsky’s Socio-Cultural Theory. The study reveals that: (a) Three of the ten short stories presented eroticism through recollection; one used dialogue while the rest presented eroticism through a full descriptive-narrative manner: (b) Heat, Midsummer and Desire highlighted on desire and attraction for opposite sex; The Other Regina, Ang Himas Ni Ricardo, Sila, Isang Hapon, and Fairy Tale For the City called for acceptance and intimacy while The Night I Cry highlighted eroticism thru incestuous acts. Suite Bergamasque displayed eroticism to free the character from all anguish and emotional turmoil while Summer Solstice did so through the dominance women had over men. (c) Five of the stories, Summer Solstice, Suite Bergamasque, Heat, Midsummer, and Desire are deemed suitable to be included in the teaching of basic literature courses while The Night I Cry, the Other Regina, The Fairy Tale For the City, Ang Himas Ni Ricardo and Sila, Isang Hapon may not because they depict very graphic descriptions and narrations of the sexual encounters of the characters. They are therefore not fit to be included in the teaching of the basic literature courses. It is concluded that for every erotic undertone in all of the stories, there is always a rational motivation behind it and that the socio-cultural milieu may have a very legitimate effect, too. The study recommends the following: 1) For future researchers to replicate this study using the same approach for analysis but on other Philippine short stories with erotic elements in them. 2) This study may also be replicated using a different approach for analysis for other Philippine short stories with erotic elements in them. 3) A similar study using the same or a different type of approach but focusing on another genre of literature such as Filipino poetry or novels with erotic undertones.

Goldmann's genetic structuralism approach is one of the literary critique approaches and believes that the literary text are derived from the ideology governing the classes of society, and focuses on study of stories and their structures to know the social structures. This quote by Fabrizio Moreira holds good for men but for women this dream posses many challenges before it is fulfilled. Women are multifaceted and perform a significant role in society. Across the world women have their challenges to face in this man"s world. In India women are considered as the goddess from the ancient time however, it is also true that they are not treated as goddess. Considering them as goddess alone is not enough, it needs positive continuous effort and participation of both men and women to really bring women empowerment. Initially women were confined to domestic chores and kept within the four walls of the house. Gradually women started getting educated and as the rate of literacy in women increased there has been some progress. Women since ages have expressed their felling, thoughts, anger, experience and anxiety through their writing not only in English but also in other languages.. This paper is an attempt to explore the various genres of women"s writing across the world to understand the life of women and also the manner in which they were portrayed in literature. This paper also tries to make a comparative study of the writings in India with other countries both in the past and present in an attempt to know how successful we have been in achieving women empowerment.

Gender Sensitivity. -Ang pagiging sensitibo ng kasarian ay pag-uugali na umiiwas sa diskriminasyon sa pamamagitan ng pag- unawa at pagtanggap sa maraming pagkakaiba sa pagitan ng lalaki at babae. Ito ay isang paraan ng pag- iisip na nagpapaunlad ng paggalang at pakikiramay sa iba — anuman ang mga pagkakaibang ito.
